Benton Street Baptist Church
Benton Street Baptist Church is located in the heart of historic Kitchener, Ontario. It was founded as the first German Baptist church in Canada in September, 1851…Benton was a German-speaking church for more than sixty years, changing to all English in 1918 after the conclusion of World War I. A large sanctuary was built in 1883 with Sunday School facilities expanded in 1901, 1927 and in 1953. The main building was destroyed by fire in 1963 and the present facility was opened in 1965. The Lightbulb Company
Last September, I wrote an article for Edna’s Archive, a play that was part of the arts festival IMPACT. Since then, members from the MT Space have taken part in the formation of The Lightbulb Company, a new theatre group based in Toronto. Their first workshop production, In Transit, will debut this Tuesday in Toronto, and will run through all week (March 2-6).
Ticket information and show times are on their website at www.thelightbulbcompany.net .
Good Market Food
We like to visit Al Madina in the main building at St. Jacobs Farmers Market. Do you want hummus with pita bread, baklava or another tasty treat? The Kitchener Market also has vendors who sell foods with international flavour.
Vijay’s
Hands down, Vijay’s is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Region. I always have take out, so of course I don’t know what it’s like eating in there. However, I’m pretty sure the owner knows my family’s last name
I highly recommend the samosas, aloo gobi, and matter paneer (NOTE** all are vegetarian). For
carnivores out there, the butter chicken and the beef dishes are really good too.
(The restaurant is located here, and I would recommend checking the times before going over there to eat or order your dinner. The hours are a bit different there…)
Market Lane, Kitchener
I have always liked this group of houses on Market Lane next to the Kitchener Market. I hope that this area will become vibrant again as a residential or small business neighbourhood.
