Corner of King and Frederick Streets, Kitchener

Helga Marschall Fisher mailed me some slides taken by her father, John Marschall, in the 1950′s and 60′s. John was in charge of hanging the Christmas lights on the old city hall for a few years, and for planting the flower beds and carpet beds for many years. She said he would also be known to people who worked at Rockway Gardens.

I moved to Kitchener in the early 1970s and do not have particular memories of the old city hall which was demolished in 1973. It was located on the block bounded by King, Frederick, Duke and Scott Streets. It looks like the cenotaph has also been moved to its current location at the corner of Duke and Frederick Streets.

This week I will post three more pictures taken by John Marschall.

  1. I love old pictures. I like the buses, the cars, the old pepsi sign on the bus (which has not changed much)and an old baby carriage. I like to think back to the way things were.
The landscaping is beautiful. I wish some things would just never change.
