Waterloo County Horse Sale

with 2 comments

I featured the Waterloo County Horse Sale in a post on June 27, 2009 and it is one of the most searched and viewed subjects on this blog. This horse auction is held on the last Saturday of every month at the Ontario Stock Exchange which is adjacent to the St. Jacobs Farmers Market. The sale starts at noon and today was the third time I have stopped by to take pictures. I had never seen the actual auction take place outdoors before. I put several photographs and a video clip together on iMovie and uploaded this four minute movie to YouTube.

Thunderstorm Warning!

leave a comment »

Waterloo Region, including the Freeport area, was hit by a severe rain storm around 3 PM this afternoon. One of our doctors commented that it looked like a washing machine outside the building. Several trees came down on the hospital property.

The people who parked in this lot off Morrison Road may not be going home on time today.

Security was looking for the owner of a car damaged by a fallen tree in the main parking lot. The ground is so saturated from recent heavy rains that trees are more vulnerable to being toppled in strong wind storms. Fortunately no one was injured. Wind speeds were up to 110 km/hour and investigations are ongoing to determine whether there were tornadoes in the area. When I saw flying shingles and swirling winds out the window, I wondered the same thing.
