“Moments” by Gerry Houghton at McLennan Park
The newest sculptures in the City of Kitchener are far more interesting than the infamous “worm” in front of the courthouse on Frederick Street. The Pedestrian on the parking garage at Charles and Benton Streets is easily understood as is this new art in McLennan Park on Ottawa Street in Kitchener. The park officially opens tomorrow and the festivities and events are detailed here.
(McLennan Park , 901 Ottawa St. South, on Saturday, Aug. 13, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Canada Day 2011 Celebrations at Columbia Lake
This event is the most searched topic on this blog by a very large margin. People are already looking for information on the annual fireworks display at Columbia Lake. The University of Waterloo and the Federation of Students organize the family oriented activities which run from 2PM to 11PM on July 1st. They rely on community sponsors and volunteers to make the day a success.
The UW Canada Day Celebrations website provides all the information you need to know including a list of activities, directions, free parking information and opportunities to volunteer or contribute to the event.
Wonders of Winter at Waterloo Park
I wandered around Waterloo Park on Saturday evening after the opening of the Wonders of Winter festival of lights. Christmas music played through outdoor speakers and many people, young and old, enjoyed the displays. Make sure to take time between now and January 1st to visit the park. (map)
