Cut-off to West Montrose

River Edge Drive, West Montrose Ontario

Line 86 is the main road on the right side of the picture. This section of it is also known as the Guelph-Elmira highway. It you are heading north-west from Guelph to Elmira, turn left at Katherine Street and then make a quick right turn to River Edge Drive. This takes you into the hamlet of West Montrose. (map)

(and yes, this is the same buggy that I took a picture of entering the covered bridge in yesterday’s post)

West Montrose Covered Bridge

I posted a picture of this bridge almost exactly one year ago today. Here it is from the other side.

The photo below is edited to look the way I think the bridge should look. All those wires are distracting.

Elmira Maple Syrup Festival

It was a perfect early spring day for the annual Elmira Maple Syrup Festival. We arrived well before 9 AM and Arthur Street was already jammed with pedestrians. It was the busiest I have seen it in a few years and when we returned to Kitchener, the traffic was backed up all the way to Waterloo on the expressway. There is a good variety of street food for sale besides pancakes and maple syrup.

Early Spring Orchard

This small orchard is on Three Bridges Road just outside St. Jacobs. The snow is melting and our early spring skies are heavy and grey, but before long these trees will blossom again.

At the Crossroads

At the Crossroads is located at the south end of Elmira. This popular country style buffet also offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options from a menu . The Mercantile has a large selection of items for sale including home and garden decor, giftware, cards and an attractive quilting shop.

January Thaw

The January thaw and rainfall created swollen creeks and rivers in Waterloo Region.

Three Bridges Road just outside the village of St. Jacobs was closed due to rising water on the Conestoga River.

The buggy bridge was under water and drivers who came this far in spite of the signs had no choice but to make a U-turn and take another route to Hawkesville Road.
