Trails at Three Bridges

1515 Three Bridges Road (Twp Rd 21) Woolwich Township

The Trans Canada Trail passes through Waterloo Region in several segments. The Woolwich Trail (No 06-0078) follows the Three Bridges Road across the Conestoga River and through the beautiful rural countryside. This sign points to the Mill Race Trail which leads to St. Jacobs. I like to stop by the low bridge over the Conestoga River and walk along the river. (map)

Muskrat on the Conestoga River

Last week I stood on the bridge and watched a muskrat munching on greens. A Bald Eagle flew overhead and many birds visited the feeders at the trail entrance. Old Order Mennonite buggies travel this gravel road and an Old Order church is just a short distance away near the Hawkesville Road.

Farm House near Hawkesville

It is not unusual to see several additions on Mennonite farm houses. This one is near Hawkesville and more like it can been seen on the highway between Elmira and Listowel. I would imagine that the adjoining houses are for multiple generations of the same family.

Waterloo Region Farm House

This fine field stone farm house is located outside St. Jacobs. Visitors were driving their buggy up the lane when I took this picture.
