Vincenzo’s

I used to go to Vincenzo’s often when I worked from an office in Waterloo. Now that my workplace is near the border of Kitchener and Cambridge, it is not convenient to stop by the store on the way home. I finally shopped at their new location this week and was not disappointed by the variety and excellent quality of products sold. Vincenzo’s website is under construction but is functional.

Moonrise at Fairview Mall

I am more of a nature trail person than a shopping mall person, but we did stop at Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener last evening around dusk. The full moon was rising over the busy commercial district along Fairway Road. And I enjoyed the beauty of nature at a mall on a late summer evening.

Kitchen Kuttings

Kitchen Kuttings flagship store at 2 Arthur Street South, Elmira

My husband always buys summer sausage at the Kitchen Kuttings stand at the St. Jacobs Farmers Market. The store in downtown Elmira features a large assortment of homemade jams, pickles and preserves as well as cheese, bulk foods and kitchen supplies. I found lids for all sorts of jars such as those originally sold with cheese whiz and pasta sauces. Kitchen Kuttings is owned and operated by sisters Lydia and Elmeda Weber and Nancy Shantz. It is featured on the Waterloo Region Foodlink website and you can find a link below to a full article about the business which was originally published in the Local Harvest newsletter.

Open: January 15 – December 31
Hours: Tues-Thurs: 9:00am-6:00pm Fri: 9:00am-8:00pm Saturday: 9:00am-5:00pm

Old Hardware Store in Ayr

The village of Ayr in North Dumfries township is very picturesque and home to many historic buildings. This old hardware store is now a pizzeria. The movie Cold Creek Manor (2003) was filmed in Ayr and other local locations in 2002. I did home care visits here at that time and remember that the store signs were removed on the buildings for the movie set.
