A fun way to spend July 1st in Waterloo Region is at the Canada Day Celebration hosted by the University of Waterloo. One of the reasons? Free admission. And if you’re looking for a fireworks show, it’s the place to go.
Each year UW puts on the impressive fireworks show at Columbia Lake beginning around 10 PM. It’s a great way to finish the day with your family, and a fun place to hang out with your friends.
There are other reasons to spend time at UW on Canada Day. Beginning at 2PM there are performances on the main stage, an arts and crafts fair, and events for the kids. Plus there’s food and you can’t go wrong there. The day’s events are organized and run completely by students from the university.
One thing I should mention… if you’re going to see the fireworks, be prepared to run into heavy traffic. If you can walk, or don’t mind walking, I’d suggest parking in the parking lot at Westmount Place plaza. (Westmount Road N and Erb Street W) It saves a lot of headache and time on the way back home, especially if you have to work early the next day.
Enjoy your holiday!
